The game has improved a lot since the release, improvement has been steady, if a bit slow, and improvements are in the right direction. I think one of the issues is also the amount of game options at the start of the game, because the choices drastically change the game, and can result in unbalanced games, for example when some players are more isolated and cannot benefit from trading with other players. This makes sense to reduce the endless expansion, but feels off.
There are some mechanics that are not very intuitive, like attaching territories to cities that causes the building of districts to become more expensive in the city, which slows down its development. The tooltips need to be improved, especially wonder descriptions, where it is often hard to figure out how exactly the mentioned bonuses apply. The zoomed out mapmode is not useful due to lack of info, and buying trade goods is tedius. The game is good looking, but the UI would profit from being a bit less minimalistic. Although, fighting a land battle with naval units joining in is amazing. Picking new cultures during the game allows the player to adapt to the gamestate, and there is a nice decision making problem of whether to progress to a new era and get the bonuses of a new culture asap, or collect more fame in the current era and risk other players taking your preferred picks.Ĭombat is great, especially in early game as later on the amount of units does slow it down. Humankind is a good game, with potential to be a great game.
